I started taking these based on information from Dr. Oz, and my own research online.
Now, I will say that the exposure on the Dr. Oz show caused a buying frenzy on these capsules,
and the prices were all over the map. I paid $8.99 plus shipping, and within two days, it
was up to $28.99, topping out around $35 at one point. So, just be careful and watch your prices.
On to the product:
Raspberry ketones are almost always a manufactured product. They are not made directly from raspberries - it would take enormous amounts to even come close to the amounts of the active item in the capsules. So, know that up front.
What differs a great deal among the brands are the other junk that they add to the pills. For some reason, many manufacturers have decided that those wishing to watch their weight have no clue what they really want or need, and have tucked all manner of things into the pills, from guarana, to mango, to who-knows-what-else-wasn't-selling-well. I REALLY advise folks to just stick with the straight raspberry ketones (RK) without all the other herbal additives and junk.
I really like this brand. For what it is worth, it is basically just RK without the added ingredients to try to rev up your metabolism. The capsules smell GREAT, like raspberries (of course). Not all of the RK supplements smell so good.
I am not sure how much they really do for weight loss. I am probably not the best representative,because I cannot get out and exercise like someone normal might - I am housebound due to some physical limitations. So, these in addition to a walking program might really rev up someone else's metabolism. I started taking them in mid-February, and it was while I was noshing on a large heart of Stover Valentine chocolates from my hubby too - and I didn't gain anything! I think these actually helped.
You are supposed to take them 1/2 hr before your meal. I rarely remember to do that, which might be why I don't see quite as much in the way of weight loss results. In the first two weeks of taking them, I did see a constant DEcrease in the scale, which was nice. It was maybe .02% of my weight, so nothing outrageous or newsworthy, but it beat the scale heading the other way.(And the chocolate didn't really help! LOL!) What I noticed that I DID love, was that I lost a lot of the belly bloat (around the navel and below area). It was like someone had popped an overfilled balloon. I don't know if I can contribute that to the effects of the RK or if it was that I also had added high protein shakes to my daily routine.
I am going to give this a fair trial, and take it for several months. I am also planning on upping the dosage from one a day to two capsules a day and see if that helps. I am significantly overweight, so perhaps I need a little more than someone who just is maybe 20 lbs overweight who might see a faster results. Either way, I feel better.
I did notice one other "side effect" - nothing weird, no green skin or hair on my knuckles, or anything along those lines. I found these seemed to be a little "binding", if you know what I mean. I again am not sure if it is directly from the RK, or perhaps from whatever they are causing to be released in my own adipose storage. But, that can be countered by adding some extra fiber. In my case, I found I needed to add a capsule that contained both soluble and insoluble fiber to help things move along - I couldn't eat enough fiber to help from foods alone. Again, I do not attribute that directly to these capsules, because I have my own other health issues - just saying that it seemed like the trip from one end to the other slowed down more than usual.
All in all, I think it is worthwhile to try. The fact is that doctors still don't really know what causes some folks to pack on weight more than others. Sure, some eat too much, but that is not the case for the majority of overweight people, despite that being the easiest fib to believe. (I see the stories on tv too, with people who eat three chickens for lunch, etc etc. I don't know anyone who does that! My tiny mother-in-law always out-ate me at any meal of any day, yet she was very small. Now with the added recent surprise of the weight loss surgery bringing instant reduction of high blood sugar in overweight folks who had that problem, the drs again had to admit they don't know what is causing fat storage in some folks and not in others. It seems to be easier to put overweight folks on a highly restrictive diet than help them find where their bodies are out of whack, even to the point of drastic surgery. It makes you feel like a pox on the planet sometimes that they hope to eradicate by going under the knife. This isn't an appendix - this is a part of our everyday lives, and overweight folks deserve better medical care! Telling me to eat less, or only certain foods is not the answer - I would say that most overweight folks are not stupid, and are not taking in double their caloric needs every day. There is something else that is not working - obesity is the SYMPTOM that something is not right - it is not a sickness itself.
Meanwhile, until anyone jumps on that bandwagon (there's plenty of room - not many are looking to understand and help figure out the root problem, only offering "bandaids" of things that work for normal weight people), RK's seem to be one weapon in the weight arsenal that seems to actually work on a cellular level, and might hold a bright future. I think it is too soon to tell, but if the price is reasonable, and you look for the formulas with ONLY RK in them (not mango, green teas, etc etc - those have their place, but you just don't want to mix too many herbal supplements in the same pill), it is probably worth a try. Again, I like this brand and it seems to work. This company mostly helps athletic types who want to bulk up, so it was an initial concern, but they are also helping gym types to reduce body fat. That's where these come in. So, try one bottle's worth, start at 125mg/day, preferably before lunch, and see if you get results. If not, at least you eliminated one other item in your search for good health.
